Holiday Bike Light Parade

This sounds fun!  The Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee and the Alexandria Spokeswomen are hosting a family-friendly ride around Del Ray this Saturday, December 16.  Bikers will view the amazing holiday lights in the neighborhood on their bikes, which will also be decked out with lights and decorations!

The ride is about an hour long and will begin around 6:00PM at the back parking lot of George Washington Middle School.  The ride is a slow, no-drop ride, which means no one gets left behind.  After the ride, the group will go to an eatery for some chow!

If the chance of rain (or snow) is greater than 40 percent, the event will be postponed.

18th Annual Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights

The 18th Annual Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights is this Saturday, following the Scottish Christmas Walk Parade.  Dozens of brightly lit boats will cruise the Potomac River at the waterfront.  Then a panel of judges will award prizes in categories such as: Best in Show, Thinking Outside the Christmas Box, and Hardiest Souls.

The parade begins at 5:30PM.  And as if that wasn’t enough, Santa Claus will arrive by fireboat at the Alexandria City Marina before the parade at 3PM.  He will meet with children until 6PM at the Torpedo Factory Art Center and he will be available to take photos.  The annual Holiday Festival, live music and a scavenger hunt will also take place at the Torpedo Factory.

The parade will stretch for one mile from Founders Park at the north end to Ford’s Landing City Park at the south end, with the parade finishing near Wilson Bridge.
