Rock the Block

Rock the Block is a new culinary-based fundraiser that will take place on Wednesday, November 14 from 6-9 p.m.

A ticket allows you to eat at the top restaurants in Old Town and, at the same time, help the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

There are different levels of tickets.  A General Admission ticket ($125/person) gets you access to eating and drinking at a number of Old Town Alexandria’s hottest restaurants.  VIP tickets ($300/person) allow the entrants to attend a reception beforehand from 5-6:30PM and access to the after-party from 9-11PM.

Each guest will receive a wristband at their reserved “starting restaurant” and enjoy unlimited food and drink at all participating restaurants, including:

  • Augie’s Mussel House
  • Columbia Firehouse
  • Hank’s Oyster Bar
  • Hi Tide Lounge
  • Mia’s Italian Kitchen
  • Virtue Feed & Grain
  • The Majestic
  • Urbano 116
  • Various Food Trucks (at Market Square)

Shrek the Musical

(Avery Johnson as Donkey, Aidan White as Shrek and Kendall Huheey as Fiona)

Mount Vernon Community Children’s Theatre (MVCCT) presents the Tony Award-winning Shrek The Musical.  The show stars 46 talented local youth from over 22 area schools. The performances will be November 9–18 at Bryant Alternative High School Auditorium (2709 Popkins Lane).

As many of us know, the story finds Shrek (a grumpy ogre) and his pal Donkey attempting to rescue a strong-willed princess.  Shrek The Musical is fun for the whole family and promotes the importance of inner-beauty.

The Director is Lara Press (Hairspray, TC Williams), the Musical Director is Amy Conley (Signature Theatre, Pallas Theatre Collective), the Scenic Designer is Suzanne Parrish, the Lighting Designer Ian Claar and the Stage Manager is Derek Farino.

The November 9, 10, 16 & 17 shows are at 7:00 p.m.  The November 11 & 18 shows are at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $14 per person.  Click here to buy them on-line.  They are also available at the door.
