Catch on the Ave. is here

Del Ray now has an option for fresh-caught seafood and craft cocktails when Catch On The Ave. opened this week. The new restaurant from Common Plate Hospitality opened at 2419 Mount Vernon Avenue.

Chef Eric Reid, formerly at now-shuttered Reserve in D.C., also runs the kitchen at months-old sister spot Augie’s Mussel House nearby.   His offerings at Catch all sound amazing.

Entrees such as beer-battered cod and chips, fish and grits, and pecan-crusted mahi mahi are offered. Brunch features tuna ribs, bacon cinnamon roll, barbecue octopus, and (wait for it) buttermilk biscuits with crab fat butter.

The family-friendly eatery will also serve a “Build Your Own Bento” kid’s menu featuring a choice of protein and three sides.

Hours will be Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to midnight, and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to midnight.

Alexandria natives Chad Sparrow, Justin Sparrow, and Larry Walston opened Mason Social nearby in 2015 and Augie’s Mussel House this summer.  Later this winter, the group plans to open Urbano 116, a traditional Mexican restaurant helmed by award-winning chef and Noma alum Alam Méndez Florián of Mexico City.

Charlie’s on the Avenue Gets Beer Garden, Extended Hours

Alexandria City Council has approved an outdoor beer garden area and extended hours for Charlie’s on the Avenue restaurant (1501 Mount Vernon Avenue).

The Council voted 6-1 based on a Planning Commission recommendation to add outdoor seating and change operating hours to 7:00AM – 1:00AM indoors and 7:00AM – 10PM outdoors. The restaurant will have 76 seats indoors and 124 outdoors. The outdoor seating is on an adjacent corner lot at 1503-1505 Mount Vernon Avenue.

The newly-approved revisions include indoor entertainment, outdoor games such as cornhole, and outdoor music.  The outdoor music will be allowed on the condition of stopping amplified noise heard beyond the property after 9:00PM

The owners, Jeremy Barber and Justus Frank, are the team behind Live Oak Restaurant, which opened in 2016 on Commonwealth Avenue.
