The new Alexandria Housing Development Corporation will break ground on August 29 on a new Carpenter’s Shelter and almost 100 units of affordable housing. The development will be at the First Street location, with 97 units of affordable housing which will be called the Bloom. It will include a playground, a community gathering area, a produce garden and underground parking. (Carpenter’s Shelter is temporarily in a portion of Landmark Mall.)
To qualify for the affordable housing, you must make less than 60 percent of the median income of $70,320 for a family of four. The Bloom will also include 10 units for families transitioning out of Carpenter’s Shelter.
Gov. Ralph Northam, Rep. Don Beyer, and Alexandria city officials will attend the groundbreaking in late August.
