Fourth of July in the AVA

Fourth of July is coming!  America is turning 242 – Happy Birthday America!  With the Fourth on a Wednesday, Alexandria will celebrate on the weekend after the Fourth.  So, on Saturday, July 7th, grab a chair or a blanket and go on down to Oronoco Bay Park (100 Madison Street).

From 6:00 -10:00PM, visitors can enjoy live music by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra with guest conductor Jon Kalbfleisch.  There will also be patriotic birthday cake, food vendors and, of course, fireworks.

Refreshments such as ice cream, hot dogs, Thai food, pizza, barbeque sandwiches, snow cones and kettle corn will be available for purchase.  But you can always back your own food!

The schedule is as follows:

6:00PM – Performance by U.S. Navy Band Commodores

7:30PM – Town Crier announces Mayor Allison Silberberg; poetry reading by Wendi R. Kaplan

8:00PM. – Distribution of birthday cake by the mayor and members of City Council

8:30PM – Performance by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra; Jon Kalbfleisch, Guest Conductor

9:30PM – Grand finale fireworks display with cannon support

Admission, like America, is free!  In the case of inclement weather, only fireworks will be rescheduled for Sunday, July 8, at 9:30PM.
